Haitian Heritage Honoured
Lakou Soleya: Celebrating Haitian Culture Through Authentic Artisan Work
Rooted in a real Haitian family courtyard, our brand honors artisanal crafts.
Born from heritage
Welcome to the lakou
Lakou Soleya was born from heritage, not from a trend.
I am Haitian. The word lakou has always been part of who I am. My family and I truly come from a lakou — that shared family courtyard where people gather, stories are told, and human warmth cannot be measured by a thermometer.
And soleya comes from soley la, the Creole word for the sun: the sun that rises over Haiti, over the Africa we come from, and over every home that welcomes it.
This project grew from a simple realization: big-box stores never tell this story. They sell décor. We want to offer soul.
Every piece you will find here — hand-cut and hand-forged metal wall art from Croix-des-Bouquets, a canvas inspired by Haitian naïve art, or an object rooted in the veve tradition — bears the signature of a real artisan somewhere in Haiti or its diaspora. Not an industrial reproduction, but a craft passed down from generation to generation.
The lakou that brings people together. The sun that shines. That is what I want to bring into your home: a little of the warmth that shaped me, and the work of hands that deserve to be seen.
— Welcome home. Welcome to the lakou.
